I have just retired and taking up my old hobby again with this kit. Perhaps a bridge too far, but I’m not in a hurry and looking forward to the challenge. I have had the kit for a month now and have focused on gathering supplies, reviewing the instructions, and learning how techniques and materials have changed in 40 years. I have started now and am finding the seatbelt assembly challenging. I don’t fully understand the glue-up of the PE buckle parts. My interpretation is that the 7 pieces must be glued together. Also, I don’t find the instructions for the cloth belts to be entirely clear. Since the kit includes two sets of belts, I assume that each belt has a mirror image to create a top and bottom by sticking them together. Again, great build and thanks for the detailed comments.

Comment on Performance Slot Cars: an introduction to NSR & Slot.it by Alan Wakely https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/2021/05/13/performance-slot-cars-an-introduction-to-nsr-slot-it/#comment-11861 Sat, 29 Jan 2022 19:04:17 +0000 https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/?p=4669#comment-11861 Hi Andy
I took the plunge and own the Slot it Nissan and Maseratti, however neither of these cars work perfectly with the Slot it/Hornby digital chip, the lap scoring does not work if the car travels at full speed over the lap sensor ! Slot it are aware of this. I have soldered in the 7005 chip into the Maseratti and this is better but again is not perfect and laps are missed ! My Scalextric cars work fine. Slot it digital chips need development as they are to far behind the guide and do not protrude far enough below the chassis.
Any suggestions welcomed but in my opinion these cars are not really suitable for Scalextric Digital racing.
Ps the cars also go full power everytime they cross a lane changer.

The vehicle was also used in the North African theatre and on the Western Front. Kettenkraftrad in 1:35 scale Tamiya released a 1:35 scale Kettenkraftrad way back in 1973.

Comment on Airfix 1:48 De Havilland Chipmunk T.10 Review and build by Vince Chadwick https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/2021/08/26/airfix-148-de-havilland-chipmunk-t-10-review-and-build/#comment-8509 Tue, 16 Nov 2021 16:30:00 +0000 https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/?p=5757#comment-8509 Thanks for that. The ‘strengthening ribs’ you refer to along the rear fuselage immediately in front of the tailplane are in fact anti-spin strakes. They are there to hold the tail up in a spin and prevent it going too flat, which would delay spin recovery. They should be mounted almost perpendicular to the fuselage (sticking out straight from it), not tilted up at an angle.

I read your post and spent a couple of hours with scouring pads, wd40 and cloth. Perhaps a bit harsh but the cars are running well again. Thankyou for your advice.

Comment on Scalextric Tuning 9: Removing the Magnet by Andy Player https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/2021/07/09/scalextric-tuning-9-removing-the-magnet/#comment-4665 Thu, 29 Jul 2021 16:49:12 +0000 https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/?p=4725#comment-4665 In reply to James Tibbetts.

Thanks James! That certainly makes me more confident to try. Who knows, I might try that with the samples that Scalextric loan me for previews – I’d really like to try those both with and without magnets.

Great tips in your ‘Scalextric Tuning No9’. However you did mention “I’m always a little nervous in case I crack the underpan”. There is no need to “lever out the magnet or remove a lug” (I’ve got the teeshirt), there is a simple way to remove the magnet from a Scalextric car without damaging the underpan. Just hold the underpan on both sides and in line with the magnet, with thumb and index finger (thumb on top), then very gently flex (bend) the underpan downwards (push down with thumb and simultaneously push up with index finger) and the magnet will ‘pop out’ or at least one side of the magnet will, which is then simple to remove the magnet.
Hope that helps.

Comment on PREVIEW: Scalextric Porsche 911 3.0 RSR Jägermeister Kremer Racing by Andy Player https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/2021/06/24/preview-scalextric-porsche-911-3-0-rsr-jagermeister-kremer-racing/#comment-3953 Sun, 04 Jul 2021 07:06:31 +0000 https://blog.jadlamracingmodels.com/?p=5142#comment-3953 In reply to David Withall.

Hi David. This is a very different model to the modern Porsche 911 RSR that had a PCR chassis produced for it. I think your best bet is to keep an eye on the 3D-printed chassis market – I’m pretty sure someone will have a chassis for this new model a few months after it is released.
